The stage two developments at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope are nearing completion with new facilities set to open to the public in a FREE Community Open Day on Saturday, August 8, 2009 in conjunction with the neighbouring Dennis Johnson Branch Library.

The Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope opened in February 2003 and since then has had close to 6 million visitors through its doors. Over the past six years of operation, Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope has been offering first class leisure and recreation facilities to the community.

"The Leisure Centre is one of our many premier facilities in Blacktown City and the extensions will further extends Council's commitment to local residents in terms of sport and recreation", Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said.

The stage two developments at the Leisure Centre include:

• Cafe Breeze
• Spin / Cycle Studio
• Extended gym with additional equipment
• Social lounge area
• Extended Creche
• Extended car parking

"These facilities will provide a fantastic sporting addition to the already comprehensive range of activities available at the Centre, giving local residents, existing and future members access to an A-grade facility", Mayor Lowles continued.

The FREE Community Open Day on August 8 will held be in conjunction with Dennis Johnson Branch Library (co-located with the Leisure Centre), which will also open for the first time to the public on the day.

The day will see FREE swim entry to the all day! There will be sports clinics, group fitness demonstrations, live music, aquatic activities, jumping castle and wave pool fun all day!

Existing facilities at the Leisure Centre include: a group fitness studio, a health and fitness studio, two court indoor sports stadium suitable for basketball, netball, soccer/ futsal, volleyball, badminton and a capacity to seat 300 people, western Sydney's only wave pool, toddles splash pools and whirl pool, 10 lane 25 metre lap pool, spa, sauna, steam room, retail area and a program pool with moveable floor.

• Weekdays 6am - 9pm
• Weekends and most Public Holidays* 8am - 5pm
• Easter Monday, Boxing Day and New Years Day 12pm - 5pm
• Closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day
