Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope celebrates 5 years

Friday 1st February, 2008 marked the 5th Birthday of Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope.
Since opening its doors in 2003 the Centre has won 19 industry and community awards, has taken more than 430,000 learn to swim enrolments and over 9,000 Health and Fitness exercise classes have been conducted. There have also been over 300 catering bookings, more than 41,000 stadium bookings and in excess of in excess of in excess ofin excess of 4.5 million customers through the door.
Across the weekend the Centre opened its doors with free aquatic and fitness centre entry. The Centre celebrated with SURFSATIONAL 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY on Saturday 2nd February. The party action included: a Sydney Swans AFL Auskick Clinic, Speed Blitz Blues Cricket NSW Clinic, Iron Man Surfing Challenge with seven time national champion Ky Hurst, Sports Stop pass the ball competition with NRL legend Brett Kenny, Featherdale Wildlife Wanderer, live band and dancers, mascot appearances, giant inflatables and a mega Surfboard birthday cake for everyone to enjoy!
The festivities continued on Sunday 3rd February with the ROYAL LIFESAVING SOCIETY ACTIVE FAMILY FUN DAY. The participants enjoyed Safety Simon Says, learn how to Rescue and Resuscitate, competing in Noodle Races and the Singstar™ Competition.
"We are proud of the success of Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope in its first 5 years of operation. It is anticipated that work will commence on Stage 2 of the Centre in July this year including a library, gym extension and other community facilities. The expanded facilities will create a 'social hub' for people to meet enjoying the unique combination of leisure, library and community facilities'. Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Leo Kelly said.
