Tuesday, December 2, 2008
On Wednesday 28th October 2008, the annual recreation industry 'study tour' once again visited Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope and thereby further enhancing the venue's reputation as being at the leading edge of Australian recreation.
Led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Aquatic Industry Council, Andrew Whittaker, the 12 delegates hailed from councils and commercial operators from all over the country including Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.
Now recognised as a key date on the industry calendar, the study tour provides professionals and organisations an opportunity to visit 'showcase' facilities and gather information on programs, initiatives and developments being undertaken by the venue.
Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope was selected as one of only ten venues in the State to be included in the tour. Upon arriving at the Centre, the delegates spent time with the Centre's Management team, toured the Centre and were provided with details of a number of activities including the highly successful Surfees Swim School, Australia's 1st computer aided drowning detection system - Poseidon, and the second stage of the centre's development which will see a library and gym extension opened early next year.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles, said that the study tour was a great opportunity to show industry leaders from other states just what Blacktown City has to offer in regards to the aquatics and recreation industry.
"This is the third year in a row Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope has been selected for this tour, proving its standard continues to be at the forefront of the aquatic and leisure industry," Mayor Lowles added.
