Building triathlon athletes at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope!

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Members of Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope use the 'state-of-the-art' facility for a number of reasons; some to keep fit, some to lose weight, and others like Felicity Davis and Julie Roche to train for triathlons and duathlons.

Although the Triathlon season has just finished, Felicity and Julie can't wait for the Duathlon season to start in June and are already training for it.

Both Felicity and Julie participated in their first triathlon last season and finished with fantastic results. Felicity placed 1st in the Women's Beginner Division and 5th overall, and Julie placed 3rd in the Women's Beginner Division and 7th overall. These results are a great achievement and a testament to the dedication of both women.

Felicity has been a member of Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope since 2003 and loves training at the Centre.

"It is such a great place to work out, the staff are very friendly and the classes are fantastic. I train almost every day to improve and maintain my fitness and I can't wait until the stage 2 developments are completed", said Mrs Davis.

Julie, a member since 2004 agrees, "The developments are very exciting especially since they are only a few months away from completion. The gym extension is going to add a new feel to the Centre."

"I especially can't wait for the new spin room, it's definitely going to add a new dimension to my triathlon and duathlon training", said Mrs Roche.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said Felicity and Julie's results are a great achievement.

"It's great to see members of the Blacktown community have a fitness goal and it's even better to hear their excitement about the stage 2 developments. Stage 2 developments are due for completion this June and will offer the Blacktown City community the ultimate in community and leisure experiences", Mayor Lowles said.
