Fitness for birth at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope

Expectant mothers can keep fit and healthy during their pregnancy by joining the award winning Aqua Natal program at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope.

This unique program is delivered in partnership with Sydney West Area Health Service and is designed specifically for expectant mums from 16 weeks to birth through to new mums from 6 weeks onwards.

A qualified fitness leader, specially trained to manage exercise with pregnancy, hosts the aqua-based physical activity session.

The benefits of the program include:

* Improved and maintained fitness

* Improved posture and increased relief from strain on the back

* Increased muscular strength and stamina

* Opportunity to meet other Mums-to-be in a fun and friendly environment

Also included in the program are weekly information sessions from a Sydney West Area Health Service Community Nurse and other health industry professionals. Topics discussed range from Nutrition, Infant First Aid, Baby Massage and Pelvic Floor Exercises.

Professor Michael Permezel from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says exercising in water was easier on pregnant woman, "Healthy and fit woman experienced easier births because their bodies were in better shape".

Morning classes will commence on Monday, May 4 at 10:30am. Evening classes commence Tuesday, May 5 at 6.00pm.
