Training Badminton Champions at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

At only 16 years of age and a member of the Under 19 Badminton NSW State Team, Honesto Buendia, also known as Jeff, is no ordinary teenager, currently ranked number one in the Under 19 age group in New South Wales.

Since moving to Australia just over 12 months ago, Jeff has yet to be defeated, and astoundingly, has had a perfect track record- not dropping a single set! Jeff has also been invited to join the National Squad- a great achievement!

Jeff has a rigorous training schedule, training seven days a week at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, with 3-4 court sessions in the first class stadium, and 3-4 gym sessions focusing on cardio and strengthening training. On top of this, Jeff also does a 10km road run every week!

"Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope is a great place to play badminton. My coach said I need to have the legs of a volley ball player and the arms of a squash player, so I will be very excited when the stage II developments are completed and I can incorporate squash into my training routine," said Jeff Buendia.

At the moment Jeff is preparing for the main tournament on 1st- 8th July 2009 representing Australia in the Under 19's in Bendigo. His ultimate goal however is to play for Australia in the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and Olympics in 2012.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles said Jeff's should be extremely proud of his achievements to date.

"Blacktown City is full of great young athletes like Jeff, many who will go on to become world champions. I am delighted that Blacktown can offer young athletes such great facilities like Blacktown leisure Centre Stanhope to train at to help them develop into future champions," Mayor Lowles said.
